Okay we all knew it had to happen…….the not so perfect
day. I got up with a skip in my step and
a song in my heart. My friends Marta and
Nancy will be arriving first thing Monday morning and today I had planned on beginning
cleaning the apartment and shopping in preparation. So I tossed the ‘dot’
sheets and my whites into the washing machine and decided it was time I stood
on something and cleaned the top of the frig.
While I was looking around under the sink for a cleaning product I
accidently disconnected the washing machine hose and flooded the kitchen. Okay, I dealt with this.
But when the load in the washing machine was finished all my
whites were pink, not a pretty pink just a pale ugly pink. I immediately went
digging for a lipstick I must have left in a pocket (I’m famous for this, not
one of my better moves ever) but there was none to be found. I finally had to surmise that the ‘pinking’
of my laundry was the result of the sheets fading!! You would think that the 12th
largest economy in the world would know how to make their sheets colorfast but
apparently not!!
I now have very expensive lingerie that is a pale shade of
unattractive pink!! Rewashing fixed most
of the problems but not the lingerie………
So I threw in the towel so to speak and went shopping. Joanne and Gary who were here just last month
recommended the La Boqueria for meats and produce and they were right. It is one of those outstanding outdoor
markets with lots of individual stands. Although I have to admit the meats and
seafood take a bit of getting used to with the eyes and heads all still present
but since I was only shopping for fruit I just didn’t look at that
stuff……..like it didn’t exist. I'll work up to this as the summer goes on! I stocked
up on cherries, peaches, grapes, and watermelon all excellent quality and then
headed off to a store Cristo had recommended for wines, cheeses and
salamis. My shopping is done and
tomorrow I will attack the cleaning once again with new vigor.
Definitely a setback but in no way a disaster………….staying in
tonight, just figured it was the smart thing to do.
Hello Dot! I'm tracking your summer adventure. Please keep the blogs coming.
