Nancy and Marta Arrive.....

At 7:45am I received a call from a strange phone number, it was a Spanish speaking man talking a mile a minute……….I understood ‘gringo, mujeres,  y aqui’.  This was just enough to let me know that it was the taxi driver and somehow Marta and Nancy had arrived a half hour early and were already waiting for me in our meeting spot in the square.  I grabbed some clothes and ran to the square to find them both there smiling and waving!

Even after traveling all night and most of the day before……..Seattle is a long way from here, they both wanted to grab a coffee and keep going.  Go we got there bags to the apartment, no easy task, big bags, small steps and lots of twists and turns but we did it!  Next it was off to the coffee shop to get a coffee and a plan for the day.  It didn’t take much discussion to decide the best thing to do was not decide, we would simply catch a ride on the ‘hop on, hop off buss of Barcelona’.  This way Nance and Marta could get an easy overview what Barcelona has to offer and where they want to focus their time.

The bus proved perfect as we rode around to many parts of Barcelona that I had not seen before and gave us all a good feeling for our favorites.  Although my friends were proving themselves troopers they were showing the signs of jet lag so we ‘hopped off’ the bus at the beach and hit my favorite beach bar (the only one I’ve been too before!) for lunch.  This is where Nancy and Marta meet the famous ‘lemonade beers’ and quickly announced they loved them!  The operative word here is ‘refreshing’ and perfect for a hot afternoon.

We came back to the apartment.  While Marta napped Nance and I schemed how we can get ourselves to Paris for a few days at the end of the week.

The day would not be complete without ‘champagne sangria and a huge dish of paella’.  While we were being entertained by the ‘hottest’ group of athletic men street performers we were treated to a complete Spanish scene as the ‘policia’ came charging in and ran them off.  Ahhhhh, nothing like a little Spanish action!  Welcome to Barcelona!!!

Needless to say it was a busy and complete day full of lots of laughs and great friendship and lots of things Spanish!
