Serendipity

With Sue back home and Joan and her family staying in their flat in Barcelona I woke up late this morning and started slowly.  When I finally signed on to email there was an invitation from Lucas, my flat owner to attend an exhibit opening at his gallery here in the Born tonight.  I had no idea the type of gallery Lucas owns but I thought this might be fun so I forwarded the invitation to Joan and family to see if they’d like to join me and then go for a quick dinner somewhere afterwards.
My day was filled with chores and of all things a nap………how quickly I become European when I’m here!!  I hadn’t heard from Joan and assumed they were simply being tourist s so decided to go to the gallery event by myself.  As I was walking to the gallery a dress in a store window caught my eye and I went in to check it out.  As I’m looking at the dress I hear Joan’s voice, of all the stores in Barcelona how can we possibly be in the same small store at the same exact moment………..some things are simply serendipity!!  Even the salesgirls shares in the laugh with us at the chances of this happening.
Joan had not received my invitation to Lucas’ gallery as they had not been home all day but they willing accepted as soon as they heard about it.  After Karen finished trying on every dress in the store and buying half a dozen…….it was definitely her type of store we proceeded to walk on to the gallery.
I can’t say much for the exhibit some very strange art from Czech Republic.  It varied from some ‘shirts in an old suitcase, some dark art, some animal hats for adults, a couple of ball gowns, to toys.  Okay that was interesting.  Lucas as always was charming and had to introduce me to each and every one of the artists.  I do believe there were more artists at the exhibit then guests!!  As Lucas walked me out when we were leaving he explained it was not his typical exhibit but it was the slow time for galleries in Barcelona and this was a friend of a friend of his.  I thought it was sweet that he wanted me to think better of him.  It was still strange art!!
We all meandered over to Milk for a casual but entirely delightful dinner.  When I showed up with Joan and her family, Jose (Sue’s and my favorite waiter) he said to me, ‘you have more friends here then the people who live here!’  Pictured above is Joan, Renee, Dee and Karen.
What I thought was going to be an evening alone proved to be great fun with good friends ……..surprises continue to await me around every corner!
