Tomorrow morning bright and early we leave for a few days to
Mallorca so today was mostly a ‘C’ day, chores, cash and cleaning but somehow
in between the chores we found enough time to visit Joan Muir Park and the
Montjuic area of Barcelona. Montjuïc is a broad shallow hill with a
relatively flat top overlooking the harbor, to the south of the city center.
The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding
view of the harbor and the city. The top of the hill was the site of several fortifications,
the latest of which (the Castell de Montjuïc) remains today. The fortress
largely dates from the 17th century. The
castle was also the site of numerous famous executions.
Today Montjuc is
a pretty upscale bustling neighborhood with gorgeous buildings, large avenues, the famous Joan
Miro Park and museum, the Magic Fountain and one very impressive shopping mall
built inside of a previous bullring. The Magic Foundation gets its name from the
changing colored lights that adorn it every night at dusk. Standing on the street in this part of
Barcelona reminds me very much of Paris, all of the buildings are very large and
ornate making your eyes dance no matter what direction you turn. After a couple
of hours of site seeing and a quick lunch at a very quiet outdoor café we went
in search of a Vodafone Store.
Vodafone insists
on sending me long text messages in Spanish.
When I have the time these messages are great sources of
entertainment. I simply ask several
people to translation them for me and get all kinds of different results. But
today I just wanted to know what they wanted and the easiest way to find that
out was to stop by a store while we were out.
They want me to send more texts……….so they had given me 5 euro of free
texting. I don’t know what I was hoping
for but I was slightly disappointed with the free texting!!
The rest of our
day was back to the chores of laundry and packing and a quick dinner at a
restaurant right across the street from the flat. We finished the day watching Synchronized Swimming
Duets compete in the medal finals at the Olympics. When did this sport happen and how have I
never been aware of it before. What do
those women put on their hair to make it look like that??? Not to mention they are clearly wearing a
little too much make-up.
I don’t think I
should have been watching this just before I went to bed……….I had some really
weird dreams and was glad to hear the 6:30am alarm!!
