The one and only Dali

After all of the adventure of the last few days we quietly ride the train from Girona to Figueres to visit the Dali Museum.  Now we all know Dali is an interesting and maybe seriously crazy guy so there’s no idea what we will see in this museum.
Interesting enough is the fact that Figueres is Salvador Dali’s real home, where he spent most of his life and where he personally selected the building for his museum and finished the project before he died.  It is truly his museum just the way he wanted us to see it.
There isn’t much in Figueres except for the Dali museum and exhibits so the path to the museum is easy to find, follow the crowd.  Like most of the major sights here when we get to the museum we are met by the long and twisty line leading to the narrow entrance door.  Also, Iike most of the sights here the signage outside of the building gives up little information.  I talk to a couple of people at the front of the line and they say they’ve waited about an hour and a half.  In the end that just about how long we wait.
The museum is housed in what used to be Figueres’ Theatre so you enter at what used to be the stage.  This is the scene of the Cadillac Car pictured above.  Unfortunately you can’t really capture all of the detail such as the dummies in the car or the broken glass in the side windows so you can peek in or that the car is full of water but in true Dali fashion it is bigger than life weird.
The most famous of Dali’s works on display was the Sala de Mae West and the more popularly known melting clocks.  It was an interesting museum because he worked in so many mediums and always leaves you with much to discuss about whatever it is you’re looking at.  I can’t see myself ever owning a Dali but think it was time well spent to visit his museum.
Our train back to Barcelona didn’t arrive until late and tomorrow is Bob’s last day.  He has saved the Segrada Familiar for his finale and we are sure to find the line of all lines at that one.  But’s it’s going to be an easy day just the Segrada and dinner at what has become Bob’s favorite restaurant in Barcelona, El Salon.   If the truth be known he really wanted to go to The Ginger Bar but they’re closed without a sign so we’re guessing they started their vacation before Bob finished his!
