Rob wants to make this a shopping day and I make it the
biggest shopping day of the summer. I
came to Barcelona with the idea I wanted to buy ‘cocktail cowboy boots’ but
quickly learned that those were an American concept and not a Spanish one, they
simply don’t have them here. So then I
started toying with the idea that a ring would be a great reminder of this
fabulous summer and before long Sue and I had discovered the ‘most unique jewelry
store in the whole world’ where I found and bought the rabbit ring. And I love the rabbit ring but it is a play ring
not the ‘really special ring’ I had in mind. As luck would have it one night when
Sue and I were trying to find the Ginger Bar we came across a very exclusive
designer jewelry store. Sue never shy
knocked on the locked door and Miguel opened the door and invited us in.
Miguel, a large roundy Spanish man with a gray ponytail and
a huge voice is the designer and his work is beautiful. While Sue is busy buying earrings and a
pendant I am busy falling in love with a very unique ring. I can’t take my eyes off of it and know it is
far too expensive for me to consider. We leave that night with only Sue’s purchases but I never
stop thinking about the ring and today the very first thing Rob and I do is head
to the Habit Espai de Jocies of Barcelona to buy my ring! Miguel Barbera the owner and designer of my
new ring says that he holds ‘The Secret of Mystic Jewels’ and I think he is
right!
Next we walk across town to the hotel Rob will be staying in
after I leave town to finalize a few details with them. Along the way Rob starts his shopping by buying
a small wallet although he says it will be obsolete in another couple of years
because all our credit card information will be on our phones. Okay maybe, after all the smart phones just
keep getting smarter. After our visit
to the hotel we shop our way down Passeig de Gracia until we stop for a tapas
lunch at one of the many outdoor cafes along the way. By the time we arrive at Placa Catalunya Rob has
purchased two very nice Spanish colognes, a beautiful watch and an array of
trinkets and trash.
Rob visited Palac Guell on our way home. It was the second Gaudi building he’s been to
and like all of us before him he is rapidly becoming a fan.
After a long day of shopping we took a breather with a
couple of games of cribbage, Rob is getting very good at it by the way and some wine and Spanish
cheeses. Then it was off to The Ginger
Bar which Rob has heard me talking about since he got here. They were closed for the entire month of August
and have just reopened. We share a
bottle of great wine and have the usual Ginger Bar dinner including the prawns
and potato salad which is only interesting because as a rule I don’t like
potato salad!
My new ring is being sized and I it pick up tomorrow. I’m afraid I
might now be able to sleep am so excited!!!
