Sue is leaving in a couple of days so she wanted one more
day at the beach and today was the day. Since it’s
Sunday and most things in Barcelona are closed on Sunday it makes it a perfect
day for the beach except that that is exactly what everyone thinks and it gets
pretty crowded. We arrived early and snagged a couple of beach
chaises. It costs 6 euros apiece to rent
them but it’s worth every penny. Especially since these were located right in
front of our favorite little beach shack making it rather convenient to refill our
lemonade beer as needed.
Unlike many other countries they don’t sell wares on the
beach here but they do sell just about every service you can think of. We have managed to say no to every vendor who
has come along and there have been hundreds until today. Somehow today a certain ‘tattoo vender’
convinced of that Sue’s time here would not be complete without our getting
matching ‘bull tattoos’ on our ankles.
For the life of me I’m not sure why we thought this was a great idea but
we did. He wanted $30 euros for the pair
but master negotiator Sue got him to agree to $20. We proudly strutted home flaunting our new
body paintings. You
can only act like this in a country where no one knows your real name! And everyone else including the kids have real tattoos!
Unfortunately our ‘bargain tattoos’ had a small flaw. Although we were both extremely careful not to
get them wet during our pre dinner showers somehow they both ran down our legs
but didn’t wash away. So now we each had
a tattoo of the ‘running of the bulls’!!
For dinner Sue and I took the recommendation of our new Norwegian
friends from the cooking school and went to the terrace restaurant on the top
of the Hotel 1898 on Las Ramblas. Joan
and her daughter and sister-in-law arrived in Barcelona yesterday afternoon so
we asked them to join us. The others begged
off needing a night of rest but Joan played on and joined us.
It was a beautiful night, the hotel was first class, once
again the food was unique and very good and the views of the city at night
breathe taking.
